An introduction, short version:
Like many of us, I was born quite small and for a surprisingly long time
ago. To be more specific, in April 1948. If You, after seeing this, think
me a fossil, feel free to stop reading and to go to better pages...
Nowadays I've reached a little more formidable size being something
like 1.93 kg and 118 m or maybe the other way round. If someone has
difficulties
with ISO standard units, that equals about six feet four inches and 260
pounds.
Places
So, I live in Finland, in the Northern Europe. If You know nothing about
this country, You'd probably like to find some essential facts here.*
I was born in a town called Pori on the western coast of Finland, from
where I moved with my parents and siblings into another town, Jyväskylä*
in Central Finland, in 1959. Starting in 1972 I've moved with my family
several times to get a suitable job. On this journey we've lived for shorter
or longer times in Karstula, Kaustinen, Kinnula, Veteli, Haapavesi and
Äänekoski and now again in Jyväskylä. Besides these
I've worked in at least Espoo and Nivala.
So I could claim having achieved a reasonable amount of experience about
moving and about different places, jobs and people. Mainly I first worked
as a teacher of math, physics and chemistry, later fulfilling various computing
tasks, more than ten years of both. Quite long period of this time,
over six years, I worked as a
software design
engineer at Nokia Mobile Phones*
Oy, first in Äänekoski and later in Jyväskylä
, where I also moved with my family in 2001. Next I worked
for five months in a small software house in Vaasa as a software engineer
before starting my current job in autumn 2002. Now I'm working at
TietoEnator in Tampere, where
also my family moved in August 2003.
Education
The basis of my education is the matriculation examination in Jyväskylän
Lyseo* in
1967 and a good continuation was my M.Sc. exam at Jyväskylä University*
in 1982. My major subject at the university was organic chemistry with
minors in physics, mathematics, theoretical physics and computer science,
all of which I later have taught in various places. Many other smaller
and wider courses and exams have I passed since those, both at work and
outside it. In addition to the courses offered by my employers I also have
continued my studies in Lappeenranta University of Technology,
in the Marketing Institute and in Jyväskylä University.
My family
I met my wife, Anna-Liisa, in Jyväskylä, where we both studied
at the university. There we also had our wedding in the city church a few
months later on 28. December in 1968. She passed her BA exam in 1969 with
general history as her main subject. We have five children, of whom You
can meet here in the Net at least Markus*.
He was born, as You could read on his home page also, in 1972 in Jyväskylä,
where he's been living with his family since autumn 1997. The next addition
to our family was Maria in 1974. She also already has a family of her own,
consisting of her husband Jari Vartiainen and three sons. In 1978 it was
the
turn of our next son, Sampo, to
arrive at this world. You may reach him by email, too:
Sampo.Vuori@st.jyu.fi
Each of our three oldest children has in his/her turn passed the matriculation
examination at Haapavesi secondary school. Following them did our next
daughter, Elisa, who was born in 1980, pass those tests at Äänekoski
secondary school in spring 1999. Now she may be seen at Tampere University of Technology, and also reached by email:
elisa.vuori@cc.tut.fi
After her we have only our "evening
star", Anniina*, left at
home. She was born in 1986 and may be reached at
vuorian@norssi.jyu.fi
My wife and I are currently grandparents of sixteen children.
More details
Before starting in the industry I feel best suited to me, computing,
I worked for thirteen years in various teaching jobs, which I still
remember as quite a stressing time in not only my life, but also my
pupils', I think...
Some additional facts about my computing background.
