Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. -- Theodore RooseveltThe Pyramid League
In the early days of Subspace, when gimmicks like burst were not even introduced yet, came the idea of making a league. To have squads fighting another, battling for being the best squad in Subspace. Quickly the idea got support from the most active players and not long after that the first match was scheduled. The League offers more to Subspace than running with flags, defending/raiding bases or dueling; true teamwork. A single mistake in the Warzone doesn't mean much, just another death -you say. But in the league things are different. Even one death can mean the turning of the game to your defeat. Teamwork is crucial and without your squad performing together you stand no chance against the top squads found in the league. HOW DO I JOIN THE LEAGUE? To join you must note EgoSlasher about your squad and give him the Squad and captains name and email address. Before that I'd advise you to check the following: * You have atleast 4 active players in your squad. * Communicating between you and them is working. If you can't get four players to a match, there will be no match (sometimes matches have been 3 on 3 as either squad had a pilot not turning up for the match). * You have read and understood the rules made for the league. And to keep yourself uptodate, check the League Zone often! WHAT TO DO WHEN I HAVE MY SQUAD SIGNED IN? Now, as a League squad you can challenge other teams in the League. Remember you can only have one scheduled fight at a time!
Pyramid League Rules - Revised 8/1/97
1. The Pyramid League is a fluid, continuous League in which teams have the opportunity to raise up in rank through challenging and defeating other teams. 2. The ranks consist of the following (followed by maximum number of slots):
3. All new teams start at Amoeba rank. To raise to the next rank you must challenge a team at that rank and beat them. Or, if the rank above has an OPEN slot, you may challenge a team AT your present rank, and with a win you will advance up. 4. The team that wins a challenge rises to the next rank, and the losing team drops to the lower rank. If it is a "same rank" challenge, the winning team moves up to the open rank above, the losing team stays at the present rank. The team that rises will then have a 1 week grace period in which they get first opportunity to challenge a team either at their rank (if there is an open slot at the next rank) or a team at the next rank. They may be challenged by a lower team once the 1 weekend grace period is up. 5. Teams have 2 weekends to schedule and play the match. If the 2 teams do not come up with a schedule within a reasonable time, I will assign a time sometime on the last Sat or Sun. If one team does not show to either an agreed time or the default time I set, then they will be disqualified for that match. What this means is that the challenging team will either get an opportunity to play or get a default win within 2 weekends. 6. Challenged teams cannot refuse the challenge. Any team presently challenging or being challenged cannot challenge/defend any further until the current challenge in affect is resolved. 7. The games will be played in the League Zone under the following conditions: Teams can start up to 4 players, and have other members spectate.
8. When a game is scheduled, if one team tells the ref they are ready and the other team is looking/waiting for members to show up, the game will start in 10 minutes regardless of the number of players present. 9. Every team can play up to 4 players, even if the other team is short. Non-teammember subs to replace missing players must be cleared by the opposing captain, and do not have to be approved. 10.Spectators must be on GHZs 0 through 5. The players will be on GHZ 100 and GHZ 200. The ref will announce which team plays on which GHZ. Spectators may not give any information to either of the team's players, such as locations, bounty, directions to go, strategy, ect. If caught doing so the spectator will be banned from League play. General cheering, or information such as time remaining and score, are allowed to be transmitted from spectators. Spectators may be asked, or (if situation warrants) forced out of the zone at the discression of the ref, or any of the players. Spectating is a priviledge not a right, so please be considerate of the ref and those playing. 11.Changing rules. Rules can be changed the following way: A team captain must send in the issue, describing what they want added or changed. I will then make it a "Vote issue" to be sent out to all the teams. After 1 week, if there have been at least 50% of the teams casting votes, the majority will win. If there is a tie I will break the tie with a vote, otherwise I do not vote. 12.There is no double squading allowed in League play. If you play for one team, regardless of how many accounts you have, you may not play for another except as an approved sub (see sub rules above). Anyone caught double-squading will have the following possible consequences: Stats erased, team disqualified, banned from League. 13.Conduct must be appropriate while in the League zone during League play. If a player or the ref asks someone to stop certain types of messages, they must stop. If a player is argumentative or belligerent to the ref, they will receive a WARNING and/or be asked to leave the zone. If the conduct continues, the player may be kicked out and banned from the League zone. Depending on the situation, the League administrator may assign the banned player a "strike". The first strike will only result in the player being banned until their team's next scheduled match. When a player receives 2 strikes, they will be banned from League play permanently. 14.All players playing in League play must be registered by their team captain. In order for a new team member to be eligible to play in a League game, the League administrator needs to be notified of the roster addition at least 24 hours in advance. If a player switches teams, the League administrator must be notified of the switch at least 24 hours in advance also. Sub rules redefined: 1. Non team subs can only join a game before it starts, and then only upon the approval of the opposing captain. 2. Team subs can sub any time, up until 15 minutes left in the game. 3. Each starting player has a slot (1 - 4). A team sub needs to be inserted into those slots. In order to sub, someone from the team needs to private message the ref. The ref will then announce the subbing, and then tell the entering player and leaving player to switch. 4. Once a player has subbed out, they may not sub again for that game. 5. Each slot is limited to one sub, meanting that there is a maximum of 4 subs for game, one for each slot. 6. Subs inherit the deaths of the person they are replacing. 7. Anyone subbing without the direction of the ref will be considered an illegal player and be asked to come out of the game by the ref. It will then be the refs judgement to allow the subbing if attempted later. New rules: (8/1/97) -- Spectators who belong to one of the teams playing may now spectate on their team GHZ, provided one of the refs is also on the GHZ. -- "Cycling" can only be done with the refs permission. To change ship types, you must first get out of radar range of any enemy ships, then ask the Host ref to switch ships. The ref will spectate on you to make sure you are not in combat, then give you the go ahead. You may only use each ship type once in the game. This means you may not cycle back to your original ship just to re-powerup something you lost.
